Happy New Year my lovelies! 🍾🥂🎉 I hope that 2018 is treating you well. The festivities are now over and it’s back to getting on with life. Everywhere I look lately all I see is “New Year, New You”. Um … why? I like the current me, thank you very much! But I do get the whole “new habits” vibe. We can’t make our dreams come true carrying on with the old bad habits that we had last year.
For me 2018 represents a lot of exciting things coming my way. As a new(ish) author I still continue to learn and grow in my writing every day. Although I don’t believe in New Year’s resolutions I do believe in setting goals and intentions. This year is my year to manifest my writing dreams. To this end I have taken my courage in both hands and entered a writing competition 😨 and this brings with it a wonderful opportunity to work with a mentor for a few months. Oh my goodness, I am so excited! I am so ready to get this year going and create magic in my life.
Years ago I stopped making new year’s resolutions. They don’t work … at least not for me. To be honest, very few people I know ever stick with them past the end of January each year. A good few years ago a friend and I discovered a concept called “word of the year”. I’m not sure who came up with the concept originally but I know Christine Kane of Uplevel You has a wonderful “your word of the year” toolkit which I use to decide my word for the year. While my friend usually picks three I usually stick to one. It is not always easy to pick just one word (there are so many fabulous ones to choose from) but I find it far more effective than making a list of resolutions that I know, eventually, will fall by the wayside. For some strange reason I continue to work on my word for the year throughout the year. And come year-end I reflect back on the twelve months that have passed to see how much I’ve achieved. The concept is simply this: You pick a word that has meaning for you and you use it as your inspiration to get things done in the year ahead.
This year my word is CREATE.
This word could mean literally anything. It could mean that I create books, create financial freedom, create abundance … you get the idea. Although it is only the first week of the new year I am already creating a new world to dwell in for the next six months as I write the manuscript for my competition entry.
So my lovelies, while I go about creating a life I love in 2018 I challenge you to find your own word for the year and see what you can achieve with the next 360 opportunities to make magic in your life. If you need help to come up with that one word that resonates with you then I encourage you to check out Christine Kane’s “your word of the year” toolkit.
In the meantime, I wish you love, health, happiness, an abundance of wealth and much joy and beauty in this year ahead. Here’s to 2018.0
