When I first decided to get into writing I thought easing myself into with a shorty-short read might be the ticket. And so Kade and Mia were “born”. I had an idea of what I wanted to write but wasn’t sure how to go about telling their story.
At the time I didn’t know that there was such a thing as “pantsers” and “planners”. But I learnt. And I discovered I am most definitely of the “planners” variety. So I took to the internet and did some research. I had an idea of what my characters looked like but I’m a very visual person and wanted to actually “see” them. So I combed the internet for faces that matched my idea of what Kade and Mia looked like. I found them. Once I had a solid grasp of what they “looked” like the ideas started to spark and soon I had a short story written. And I fell in love with these two all over again. I invite you to have a read and maybe you’ll fall in love with them too.
Kade is an American FDA agent here in South Africa as part of a joint task force to combat human trafficking. He’s hot, he’s intense and he’s lonely. Living the life of an undercover agent doesn’t exactly allow for time to build meaningful relationships. Or the open honesty that is required, either.
Mia is usually shy, loving and just looking for someone to love her. She meets a man she thinks is her “one”, only to discover he’s a heartless, murdering bastard incapable of sane thought let alone true love. Scared, tired and heartbroken Mia is on the run.
Neither one is looking for anything permanent but they’re both just sick of being lonely. What if, for one night only, they can find solace in each other’s arms?
I loved writing about Kade and Mia’s one night together. Who knows, maybe one day they’ll get their happy ever after? After all, life is better with a bit of romance, right? In the meantime you can find the link to this shorty-short read here.
