Although I am an only child I grew up as part of a large family. And one of the perks of being part of a large, close knit family is that everything is done as a family. Some of my most favourite memories from my childhood is the large family Christmases. Every Christmas we would all gather at my grandmother’s house on Christmas eve to await the arrival of Father Christmas. The children were put down for a nap at about eight o’clock and the adults would have a party to while away the hours until just before the expected arrival. They would wake us in time that we could go and keep an eye out for dear old Santa.
As children the magic of Christmas was all wrapped up in the whole package (pardon the pun) but as the years passed and I got older so the meaning of Christmas changed for me. It became a symbol of togetherness, family and above all love … the love that family has for one another. And to this day Christmas is still my most favourite holidays of the year. To me it means a time to be with loved ones we don’t get to see any other time of the year. It means a slowing down of the craziness that the rest of year brings. It’s a time to tell your loved ones just how much they mean to you. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying it’s the only time of the year to do so. In fact, I believe we should make a point of telling our loved ones everyday how much they mean to us. Time is too short to miss any opportunity to do so. It also means a time to be extra thankful for all that we have and all that we’ve been blessed with throughout the year. To give thanks for miracles and blessing, big and small.
I am happy to say I have passed that love of Christmas on to my son and I look forward to passing it on to my own grandchildren one day too. There is something that just remains magical to me about this specific time of the year and it deserves to be shared.
Thank you for sharing a wonderful, crazy, busy, blessed year with me. From my family to yours, may you have a truly blessed festive season and a very merry Christmas. May the love and joy of the season infuse your heart and may you enjoy time with loved ones as we celebrate this magical holiday.
Wishing you a very merry, blessed Christmas filled with love, health, happiness and enough memories to last a lifetime.
